What Is QC and Why It Matters
Quality Control (QC) is the process of inspecting your items before they leave the OopBuy warehouse. After items arrive, OopBuy takes photos and you review them. This is your only chance to catch issues before the item ships internationally. Once it leaves China, your options are limited. QC is the most important step in the entire purchasing process.
Many buyers rush through QC or skip it entirely. This is a mistake. A few minutes of careful inspection can save you weeks of disappointment and the hassle of dealing with international returns. Treat QC as seriously as you would treat inspecting a retail purchase in a store.
QC Checklist by Category
Different categories have different QC priorities. Here is what to check for each major category:
- Shoes: Toe box shape, heel tab alignment, swoosh/logo placement, midsole paint, insole print, lace aglet quality.
- Hoodies: Neck tag stitching, drawstring aglet, kangaroo pocket symmetry, cuff and hem ribbing, interior fleece texture, print cracking.
- T-Shirts: Neck tag alignment, shoulder seam stitching, hem double-stitch, print cracking, fabric transparency, wash label.
- Jackets: Zipper pull branding, pocket placement, fill distribution, hem and cuff elastic, interior lining, button alignment.
- Accessories: Hardware branding, stitching consistency, interior lining, logo engraving, zipper pull quality, edge paint.
How to Request Specific Angles
OopBuy's standard QC photos cover the basic angles, but sometimes you need more. If you are buying a high-value item or if the standard photos do not show a critical detail, request additional angles. There may be a small fee (usually $1–$3 per photo), but it is worth it for expensive items.
Photo Request Strategy
Request close-ups of the areas you care about most. For shoes, ask for heel and toe box. For clothing, ask for neck tag and print. Be specific: "close-up of heel tab from the side" is better than "more photos."
Common QC Flaws to Spot
Some flaws are common and acceptable. Others are deal-breakers. Here is how to distinguish them:
- Acceptable minor flaws: Slight stitching variation, minor color shade differences, small glue marks on midsoles.
- Deal-breaker flaws: Misaligned logos, major color errors, missing details, broken hardware, incorrect tags.
The key is context. A minor flaw on a $40 item is acceptable. The same flaw on a $120 item is less acceptable. Set your expectations based on the price tier and batch rating.
When to Approve vs Exchange
Approve the item if the flaws are minor and within your tolerance. Request an exchange if the flaws are significant and the seller accepts returns. Keep in mind that exchanges take time and may not always be possible. Some sellers have no-return policies. Check the seller's policy before ordering.
If you are unsure, ask the community. Post the QC photos on Reddit with a clear question. The community is usually quick to give honest feedback. Use their input as a data point, but remember that the final decision is yours.
QC Photo Quality Tips
Standard QC photos are usually well-lit and clear. If a photo is blurry or poorly lit, request a retake. Good lighting is essential for checking color accuracy. If the photo looks too dark or yellow, ask for a photo in natural light. A small fee for a retake is worth it if it helps you make the right decision.
